USSC Promulgates Preliminary Proposed Amendments to the Guidelines
January 16, 2023On January 12, 2023, The United States Sentencing Commission promulgated preliminary proposed amendments to the United States Sentencing Guidelines. These are the first proposed amendments since 2018 and are designed in part to conform the Guidelines to the changes passed by Congress in 2018 with the adoption of the First Step Act. They are available here. Public comment will be available until March 14, 2023. These proposed amendments will make substantial changes with respect to compassionate releases, safety valve application, acquitted conduct, firearms offenses as well as resolving several Circuit Court conflicts.
